The Balkan History Association has signed a cooperation agreement with the Chokan Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology in Almaty, the leading scientific institution of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan specializing in the history, ethnology, and anthropology of Kazakhstan. Its research focuses on topics such as the Golden Horde, the Kazakh Khanate, the Great Steppe, Kipchak studies, Kazakhstan during the Russian Empire, socio-demographic development, ethnogenesis and ethnicity, political repression and social issues in the Soviet era, and national security.
The partnership aims to promote interdisciplinary research on Kazakhstan and Central Asia while exploring their connections to the Balkans and the broader Eastern European cultural, political, economic, and social landscape through conferences, lectures, and the publication of thematic volumes.
The association is represented by its President, Mihai Dragnea, and Vice-President, Dorina Dragnea. The Institute of History and Ethnology is represented by its General Director, Ziyabek Kabyldinov, Deputy Director for External Relations, Zhomart Zhenis, and Deputy Director for Public Relations, Yerzhan Toraigyrov.
