The “Konstantin Preslavsky” University of Shumen from Bulgaria (SHU), which is recognized as a leading university that offers modern facilities for education, scientific research and creative work, and the Balkan History Association from Romania (BHA) signed a Cooperation Agreement to establish a program of exchange and collaboration in areas of benefit to both organizations.
The purpose of the cooperation between BHA and SHU is as follows:
a) To deepen the understanding of the historical, cultural, political, economic, and social issues environment of Balkans;
b) To facilitate the formation of a community of scholars specialized in the study of the region, as well as to engage in the formation and professional development of their younger peers;
c) To create a platform for cooperation between researchers and the general audience, designed to facilitate a better collaboration between the states in the area.
To achieve these goals, BHA and SHU will, insofar as the means of each allow:
a) Organize conferences, symposiums, lectures and other meetings on different research issues. The information related to these, as well as any research output generated on these occasions are advertised and published primarily through BHA’s journal called Hiperboreea;
b) Promote organizational exchanges by inviting own members as well as scholars of the partner institutions or organizations to participate in a variety of research activities;
c) Carry out joint research programs in order to contribute to a better understanding of the communities in the area, and their shared cultural heritage;
d) Promoting the Balkans as a region intrinsically linked to the larger European cultural, political, economic and social space;
e) Exchange information pertaining to developments in research at each organization.
The Agreement was signed by the Rector of the “Konstantin Preslavsky” University of Shumen, Prof. Dr. Georgi Kolev and the President of the Balkan History Association, Dr. Mihai Dragnea on March 14, 2019.
